The Ruler
Tai Chi Ruler
An introduction to the Tai Ji Ruler (Rocking)
We call it rocking in class. Rocking is a good term, meaning like being in a rocking chair. Relaxing, enjoying, no stress or tension, just letting go and allowing your true nature to come up. You can use anything, any size. We use a paper towel tube, the easiest thing most people have around. Anything usually about 9 to 12 inches long.
This is an ancient Asian Taoist chi kung (Qi Gong) exercise. If memory serves I read in an article that it was forgotten for a long time. Then in the 1950s, a master came down from the mountains to help his sick family recover. He showed them this Tai Chi Ruler and they started to recover, it of course spread. Now you can find many sites talking and teaching about this movement. I would like to show a quick look at the basics and you can take it from there.
